NINE ISLANDS. NINE PERSONALITIES

The Azores… Nine islands flung across the vast mid-Atlantic

The Azores… nine islands flung across the vast mid-Atlantic, yet each possesses a character utterly its own. Believe me, seeing one certainly doesn't mean you've seen them all. Each offers unique landscapes, distinct traditions, different stories. Think of them perhaps as nine siblings – all related, undeniably Azorean, yet wonderfully individual. Eccentric? Sometimes. Fascinating? Always. Occasionally challenging? Perhaps. But dull? Never!

São Miguel: The 'Green Island' and Azores' largest and probably best known; it features a diverse beauty from lush crater lakes to volcanic coasts.

Flores: Aptly named 'Island of Flowers' & Europe's western frontier, famed for dramatic waterfalls and remoteness.

Corvo: Europe's smallest community living within one spectacular, perfectly formed volcanic caldera.

Terceira: The 'Lilac Island', not for flowers, but the unique pastel hues of historic Angra do Heroísmo!

São Jorge: The 'Dragon Isle' (or 'Toblerone bar'!) – dramatically long and narrow with sheer cliffs plunging to coastal fajãs.

Pico: The 'Grey Island', dominated by Portugal's highest mountain and starkly beautiful volcanic vineyards.

Faial: Here you can walk on Europe's youngest volcanic peninsula at Capelinhos (born 1957!).

Graciosa: The 'White Island' offering gentle charm, rolling hills, iconic windmills, and tranquil villages.

Santa Maria: The archipelago's 'sunny south', uniquely blessed with the only extensive golden-white sand beaches.
