SCOTTISH RUDOLPH
REINDEERS IN THE CAIRNGORMS
In the heart of the Scottish Highlands lies the Cairngorms National Park, where a unique and enchanting experience awaits visitors: the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd. This free-ranging herd of reindeers calls the Cairngorm mountains their home, making it the only one of its kind in Britain.
Once native to Scotland, these magnificent creatures were reintroduced to the Highlands, creating an unforgettable experience - and not only at Christmas! Visitors can book guided walks uphill to their habitat, offering the opportunity to hand-feed these gentle animals while surrounded by the herd. However, petting is discouraged as they prefer to not be touched!
My personal experience is, avoid booking the last tour of the day, as the reindeers may be satiated and weary from the day's interactions and will disappear after a short while into the mountains. Instead, opt for the morning tour when they are more eager, hungry, and curious, allowing you to spend quality time observing them up close.
