BRAEMAR CASTLE

Braemar Castle, Cairngorms

🏰 Braemar Castle: A 17th-century fortress tucked away in the Scottish Highlands, in the heart of the Cairngorms. This L-shaped tower house with a star-shaped wall has stood tall for centuries, silently watching history unfold around it. Built in 1628 as a hunting lodge and symbol of power for the Earls of Mar, it was later burned and rebuilt during the Jacobite Rising.

⚔️ Its strategic location controlled access through the Cairngorms, making it a key player in Scotland's turbulent past. From Queen Victoria to the present Royal family, its guest list is a testament to its grandeur.

🎬 Its picturesque charm has often graced the screens, appearing in numerous films over the years.

📷 Don't forget to take a stroll around the castle. Each side of the castle has its own unique look, so you'll have a ton of chances to take some great photos! The castle itself has opening hours which vary seasonal, but you can explore the grounds anytime!

👻 No Scottish Castle without a ghost story! Apparently, it's haunted by the ghost of a newlywed bride who mistakenly believed that her husband regretted their marriage and had left her. Overcome with despair, she jumped off the castle's highest tower. Now, her ghost is said to roam the grounds.
