TOP 5 SCOTTISH CASTLE RUINS

5 Must-See Castle Ruins in Scotland

It's estimated that there were once as many as 3,000 castles in Scotland. Around 1,500 of these are thought to still stand today, although many are in ruins. It's difficult to select only five for the Top List, but I have made my choice based on their photogenic qualities. So if you're out and about in Scotland with your camera, don't miss these five!

1️⃣ Dunnottar Castle in Aberdeenshire, North East Scotland. Stunning ruins perched atop a precipitous cliff.

2️⃣ Tantallon Castle in East Lothian. Well worth a visit in its own right, but most impressive when viewed from the historic Seacliff Harbour.

3️⃣ Slains Castle, Aberdeenshire, near Peterhead. The castle that inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula castle.

4️⃣ Castle Sinclair Girnigoe in Caithness, near Wick. The castle is crumbling atop a steep cliff, surrounded by fantastical sea stacks.

5️⃣ Muness Castle, Shetland. The moodiest of all castles, perfect for one of those quintessential Shetlandic gloomy days.
