HALL OF CLESTRAIN - ORKNEY

Lost Place Beauty Hall of Clestrain

Built in 1769, this once magnificent manor house was the birthplace of renowned Arctic explorer John Rae. After a series of ownerships and falling into disrepair, it's been abandoned since 1952.

Despite (or because of…) its dilapidated state, the Hall of Clestrain retains an ethereal beauty, a captivating blend of history and decay. For photographers, it's a hidden gem offering unique shots, especially when the early summer wildflowers add a splash of colour.

While you can freely explore the exterior, please refrain from attempting to enter the building for safety reasons.

When you're a lover of lost places, abandoned buildings, or simply seeking the rustic charm of Orkney, the Hall of Clestrain is a must-visit.
