LIGHTHOUSES OF SCOTLAND
Realm of lighthouses
🌟 With over 200 lighthouses dotting its rugged coastline, Scotland proudly wears the crown not only as the land of castles but also as the realm of lighthouses. England and Wales combined can only boast 60, making Scotland a true lighthouse haven.
I've handpicked five standout lighthouses from my collection:
1️⃣ The Windy Warrior: Butt of Lewis, Isle of Lewis
Hold on tight! The Butt of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides stands as the Guinness World Record holder for being the windiest place in the UK.
2️⃣ The Remote Sentinel: Muckle Flugga, Shetland
Perched precariously on sharp rocks off the coast of Unst, Shetland, Muckle Flugga is Britain's most northerly lighthouse. Its isolation is unmatched, with no connection to the mainland.
3️⃣ The Adventurer's Challenge: Noup Head Lighthouse, Orkney
Prepare for a breathtaking adventure! To reach this beauty, you'll ferry to Orkney, then to Westray, drive to Noup Head, park your car, and embark on a 2.5-hour hike along a windy cliff's edge. Worth it!
4️⃣ The Iconic Symbol: Neist Point Lighthouse, Isle of Skye
The most photographed lighthouse in Scotland, Neist Point is a symbol of the Isle of Skye. Its stunning backdrop makes it an entry on every photographer's bucket list.
5️⃣ The small-but-mighty leading light: Stoer Lighthouse
Don't let its 14-metre height fool you! Stoer Lighthouse stands tall thanks to its 54-metre elevation above sea level. Its clifftop position packs a punch.
