CROVIE
Crovie, Aberdeenshire
Built on the narrowest space between shore and cliff in all of Scotland, Crovie is a picture-perfect 18th-century fishing village that seems to rise straight from the sea. It's no wonder this Aberdeenshire gem is one of the most photographed spots in the region! And guess what - the name is again differently pronounced as one might think… It is 'Crivvie' in the local accent.
The village that emerges from the sea
🚗 Park at the viewpoint above and take in the breathtaking panorama. Then, venture down the steep path to explore this unique village. No cars down in the village! They can't reach the single row of houses, and residents still rely on wheelbarrows to transport their goods.
🌊 Crovie's charm is undeniable, but its vulnerability to the elements is also evident. Storms and harsh seas have taken their toll, washing away houses and the path to neighbouring Gardenstown.
While the fishing industry may be gone, Crovie's spirit lives on!
