FOOTDEE

Footdee (Fittie) in Aberdeen

Ahoy! Today we set sail for Footdee (locally known as Fittie), Aberdeen!

This hidden gem is one of the most unique communities in Scotland. It is tucked away behind thick sea walls just a stone's throw from the bustling beach promenade and nestled at the harbour mouth. It is easy to miss if you didn't know it was there. It is literally a “hidden gem”...

Wander through the narrow, cobbled streets, lined with rows of uniform fishing cottages, meticulously arranged in neat little squares. The cottages have their backs to the sea, providing shelter from the fierce storms that batter this coastline.

But what truly sets Footdee apart is its eccentric mix of artistically transformed sheds and outbuildings. Each one boasts its own unique touch, from bright colours and driftwood to imaginative decorations. Maritime objects like buoys, nets, and model boats adorn the sheds and houses, creating an eclectic tapestry of creativity.

As a final note, I urge you to be mindful. Remember, this is a residential area, not an amusement park. Please conduct yourself in a manner that you would expect passersby to behave in your own neighbourhood.
